-Zahide Betül Åžahin kimdir?
Selçuk üniversitesi Seramik bölümünden mezunum. Mezun olmadan son bir yıl Marmara Üniversitesinde okudum. Ä°stanbulda üç yıl yaÅŸadım. Daha sonra Amerikaya yerleÅŸtim. Güzel sanatlar seramik bölümünde okuduÄŸum sıralarda giyim ve aksesuar alanlarına yönelme çabasındaydım. Seramik ile bu alanları nasıl iliÅŸkilendirebilirim diye düÅŸünürken, malzemesi çamur olan heykelsi giyilebilir iÅŸler tasarladım. Giyilebilir, taşınabilir sanatsal tasarımlar baÅŸlığı üzerinde çok duruyordum. Daha sonra gözlük tasarımı yapmakta karar kıldım.

-Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
​
I graduated from Ceramics Department of Selçuk University and I studied at Marmara University in my senior year. I lived in Istanbul for three years before I moved to USA. During my study of Ceramics in the Faculty of Fine Arts, I had been trying to focus on clothing and accessories. While I was thinking about how I could combine Ceramics with these two fields, I designed sculptural wearable products the materials of which was mud. I was concentrating on the concept of 'mobile artistic designs'. Then I decided to design glasses.
-Sence gözlük tasarımı hangi sanat dalının bir öÄŸesi ve gözlük tasarlarken dikkat edilmesi gereken en önemli öÄŸeler neler?

Gözlük bi aksesuar olarak moda alanın tamamlayıcı bir unsuru olabilir ama bana göre çerçevesi veya detayları çamurdan ÅŸekillenen seramik veya heykel gibi. Teknik anlamda gözlük tasarlarken bir takım ölçüler olmak zorunda yüz hattına oturması için. Genelde o senenin trend olan renk ve materyalleri baz alınarak tasarlanıyor fakat ben bunlara pek dikkat etmiyorum.

-Tasarımlarına baÅŸlamadan önce yaptığın bir ritüel ya da herhangi özel bir ÅŸey var mı? Varsa neler?
Ritüel olarak beÄŸendiÄŸim ve beni etkileyen herÅŸeyi iyi bir araÅŸtırma sonrasında gözümün önüne seriyorum ve bi tarafından baÅŸlıyorum onun haricinde özel birÅŸey yapmıyorum.

-Do you have any rituals or anything special before you start designing? And if so, what are those?
As a ritual, after a good research, I analyze everything I like and everything that impresses me. Then I begin somewhere, but other than that, I don't do anything special.
-Türkiye'deki sanat anlayışına ve kadın sanatçıya bakış açısına olan yorumun nedir?
Türkiye de beÄŸeni algısı yüksek fakat sanatçıya destek anlamında zayıf olunduÄŸunu düÅŸünüyorum. Ben yeni yetiÅŸen sanatçıların ilerde çığır açacağına inanıyorum. Geçenlerde Türkiye’deki kadın sanatçıların Avrupa ve ABD’deki hemcinslerinden daha iyi durumda bulunduÄŸunu, Ä°stanbul’daki galerilerde sergilenen çalışmaların yüzde 40’ının kadınlara ait olduÄŸunu okumuÅŸtum. Bu benim geleceÄŸe dair daha umutla bakmamı saÄŸladı.

-What do you think about the sense of art and the general opinion against the women artists in Turkey?
I think that in Turkey, the perception of liking is high but the support to the artist is weak.I believe that new up-and-coming artists will make a breakthrough in the future. I have recently read that the women artists in Turkey are in much better condition compared to their fellow women artists in Europe or USA and that the 40% of the works displayed on the art galleries in Istanbul belong to women. This makes me look more hopeful to the future.

- What are the three things that make you not give up on art?
The fact that it makes me feel special, that it has no boundaries, and that it has emotions.

-Hiç umutsuzluÄŸa düÅŸüp "yapamayacağım" dediÄŸin anlar oldu mu, bu zamanlarda o iÅŸi tamamlamak için kendini nasıl motive edip devam ettin?
​
Yapamayacağım diyeceÄŸim zamanlarda aklıma hemen kendime ÅŸu soruyu sormak geliyor; “Elimden gelen herÅŸeyi yeterince yaptım mı?”. Sonra hemen toparlanıp yeniden daha sıkı çalışmaya baÅŸlayabiliyorum.

- Have you ever had moments of despair, where you said "I can not do it", and how did you motivate yourself to complete that job and carried on?
When those moments come, I stop and ask myself, "Have I done everything I can?", and then I pick myself up and start working even harder.
-Bir dönüm noktan oldu mu? Bu farklı bakış açısını kazandıran olayı yaÅŸamasaydın ÅŸuan nasıl biri olurdun?
Herkesin hayatında bi çok dönüm noktası var aslında. Benim en belirgin dönüm noktam, güzel sanatları keÅŸfettiÄŸim zaman oldu. Aksi halde ne yapardım bilmiyorum.
- Have you had a milestone? How different would you be if you had not experienced this incident that gave you a different perspective?
There are many milestones in everybody's life.My most significant milestone was when I discovered fine arts. If I hadn’t, I don't know what I would do.
-Gelecekte seni nerelerde görebiliriz?
Hayallerim var ama esasen ben günü en verimli ÅŸekilde deÄŸerlendirmeye bakıyorum. GeleceÄŸi bilmiyorum.
- Where can we see you in the future?
I have dreams, but I mainly try to have the day go by the most productive way and I do not know the future.
